IK4-TEKNIKER was created in 1981 as a non-profit Spanish technology centre and became legally a foundation in 1996 based on a statutory commitment aimed at upgrading the competitiveness of the industry and its services via technological support. IK4-TEKNIKER defines itself as a centre of mechatronics, manufacturing technologies and microtechnologies, in areas such as energy, industrial products designing and consumer goods.
IK4-TEKNIKER has been participating in European projects since 1988, under the 2nd Framework Program and nowadays it counts on over 250 experienced researchers.
In particular, research related with Concentrating Solar Power have had and increasing importance during the last 10 years. This accounts for over 1M€/year for the last 7 years and includes not only industrial projects with main Spanish players in this sector (e.g. Abengoa Solar New Technologies, Sener, Torresol Energy, ACS-Cobra, Rioglass Solar, Aries Ingeniería y Sistemas, Samca Renovables) but also regional, national and international projects like those described below. We are an active member of the Joint Programme on CSP at the EERA (European Energy Research Alliance).
From the 1st of January 2020, IK4 Research Alliance ends and its partners continue separately. IK4-TEKNIKER becomes TEKNIKER.
In the Competitive Solar Power Towers project, TEKNIKER is responsible for:
- Development of down-sized heliostat
- Development of regenerator
- Implementation and set-up of the control system in the prototypes
