European Advanced Energy Materials and Technology Congress 2018

The European Advanced Energy Materials and Technology Congress (AEMC 2018) is an annual international event for the new age energy materials and technology organised by the International Association of Advanced Materials, Institute of Advanced Materials and VBRI Sverige AB during 25 – 28 March 2018, Stockholm, Sweden.

6th International Symposium on Advanced Ceramics and Technology for Sustainable Energy Applications

The 6th International Symposium on Advanced Ceramics and Technology for Sustainable Energy Applications will take place on 31st October – 3rd November in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Based on the success of the last 5 ACTSEA International Symposium (International Symposium on Advanced Ceramics and Technology for Sustainable Energy Applications) held for every other year since 2007, we are obligated to continue this great event and are now organizing the 6th International Symposium on Advanced Ceramics and Technology for Sustainable Energy Applications toward a Low Carbon Society (ACTSEA 2017). This symposium will be held from Oct. 31 through Nov. 3, 2017 at the Garden Villa, Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

The purpose of this symposium is to provide an international scientific forum for discussion and exchange of ideas on the up-to-date R&D of advanced ceramics for sustainable energy and energy efficiency applications. The experts and scholars from industries, universities, and research laboratories will discuss recent advances, development, field applications, and future challenges for creating ceramics with unusual properties as well as bringing these ceramics to the marketplace. The International Conference on Ceramic Materials and Components for Energy and Environmental Applications (CMCEE-12) will take place on 22-27 July 2018 in Singapore.

Advanced materials and technologies play a critical role in solving various societal challenges. Among these, advanced ceramics are enabling materials for a number of demanding energy efficient and eco-friendly applications in aerospace, power generation, ground transportation, nuclear, and chemical industries.

The 12th International Conference on Ceramic Materials and Components for Energy and Environmental Applications (CMCEE-12), is eleventh in a series of international conferences that provide a forum for the presentations and information exchange on the latest emerging ceramic technologies. The conference series began in 1980s and was last held in Vancouver, Canada in 2015. Over the years, this conference series have established a strong reputation for the state-of-the-art presentations and information exchange on the latest emerging ceramic technologies and their wide ranging applications. They have facilitated global dialogue and discussion with leading world experts to address energy and environmental challenging facing the society.

A plenary session entitled “Technological Innovations and Sustainable Development” is also planned. The technical program contains thirty one symposia covering wide ranging topics. The goal is to identify key challenges and opportunities for various ceramic technologies in creating sustainable development. The program will also generate important discussion on where the particular field is heading on a global scale. It will provide a global forum for knowledge sharing and to make new contacts with peers from different continents. In addition to regular programming, two honorary symposia are also planned.

The call for abstracts will be open from 15 December 2017 to 15 February 2018.

The SolarPACES (Solar Power and Chemical Energy Systems) Conference was held from September 26-29, 2017 in Santiago, Chile.

The Competitive Solar Power Towers project was presented at event by the partners CENER and EDF.

CAPTure presented at the 12th International Modelica Conference

CAPTure partner IK4 TEKNIKER delivered an oral presentation at the 12th International Modelica Conference.

The event was held in Prague, Czech Republic, on May 15–17, 2017, organized by The Czech Society for Cybernetics and Informatics (CSKI) and Politecnico di Milano, in cooperation with the Modelica Association.

The programme covered modeling of complex physical and cyber-physical systems, as well as tools, for a wide range of research and industrial applications.

12th International Modelica Conference 2017

The 12th International Modelica Conference will be held at Clarion Congress Hotel Prague, Czech Republic, May 15–17, 2017. The event is organized by The Czech Society for Cybernetics and Informatics (CSKI) and Politecnico di Milano, in cooperation with the Modelica Association.

The Modelica Conference is the main event for users, library developers, tool vendors and language designers to share their knowledge and learn about the latest scientific and industrial progress related to Modelica and to the Functional Mockup Interface.

The program will cover modeling of complex physical and cyber-physical systems, as well as tools, for a wide range of research and industrial applications.

In addition to paper presentations and poster sessions, the conference features several Modelica tutorials for beginners and advanced users, as well as vendor presentations, and an exhibition. The previous Modelica conference in 2015 was attended by more than 400 participants from all over the world, and we would like to welcome even more participants to this conference.

European Ceramic Society Conference

The next conference and exhibition of the European Ceramic Society will be held in Budapest, Hungary, from 9th to 13th July 2017.

The conference will be organised in partnership with the Turkish Ceramic Society  and the Hungarian Scientific Society of the Silicate Industry.

Since the first ECerS conference in 1989, the tremendous growth in interest and participation from ceramic communities has made the event a popular venue for scientists, artists, students and industrialists willing to have a direct access to one of the largest community of international experts of ceramic art, science and technology.

ECerS2017 will promote a multi-disciplinary atmosphere, mixing ceramics, materials science, chemistry, physics, art, design, archeology, dentistry, electronic, energy departments and industry and universities as well as young scientist with the experienced to discuss the developments in the ceramic art, science and technology under 12 different topics from the latest energy applications to traditional ceramics, from the latest additive manufacturing technologies to cultural heritage and art, from high temperature production to geopolymers.

International Thermal Spray Conference

The International Thermal Spray Conference will take place on 7-9 June in Düsseldorf, Germany.

This outstanding annual event in the world of thermal spray technology is jointly organized by the DVS – German Welding Society, ASM International’s Thermal Spray Society (TSS) and International Institute of Welding (IIW).

Beside the practice-oriented ITSC technical conference program further highlights, e.g. the session “Young Professionals” will be offered. ITSC 2017 is again supporting young talents becoming part of the worldwide thermal spray family.

The “Industrial Forum” is another characteristic of ITSC. All practically interested experts will be addressed to get information in this forum.

Last but not least the “Three-day Exposition” is a permanent part of the event.

Thermal Spray Characterization 2017

The Conference “Thermal Spray Characterization: Materials, Coatings and Processes”  will be held on 11-12 April in Charleston, USA.

Attendees will learn and discuss past, present and future methods of characterization of thermal spray materials, including:

  • the types of characterization methods that are being implemented or emerging to improve the reliable manufacturing of thermal spray coatings

Africa New Energy Conference

This year 18 sessions will feature on the programme of technical conferences at GENERA 2017, the Energy and Environment International Trade Fair, which will take place at IFEMA between 28 February and 3 March in Madrid, Spain.   A space for discussion and analysis of the most burning issues in the industry today which, once again, will serve as the main hub for companies, professionals, public representatives and associations linked to the world of renewable energy, energy efficiency and the environment.

Energy efficiency, energy services, prospects for progress in renewable energy and technological innovations are among the issues to be addressed in these talks, with a particular focus on examining the new challenges and opportunities in the development of the sector.

This will be the backdrop for “Forecasts for the cogeneration sector in 2017: Renewal and new quotas” in a conference organised by the Spanish Association for the Promotion of Cogeneration (COGEN) and the Spanish Association for Cogeneration (ACOGEN), as well as “Energy efficiency in urban environments. Development prospects” in a conference to be held by the Research Centre for Energy, the Environment and Technology (CIEMAT).

For its part, the Solar Association for the Thermal Industry (ASIT) will organise a session on “The current situation of and prospects for progress in the Thermal Solar Sector”, focused on its new applications and challenges, and a presentation will be given by SOLPLAT, the Technological Platform for Low-Temperature Thermal Solar Energy.  ASIT has also organised its traditional General Assembly of Partners as part of GENERA 2017.

Press release – Innovative concentrated solar power plant configuration under test in southern Spain

A consortium of solar thermal electricity experts, coordinated by CENER, has started to test the key components of an innovative concentrated solar power plant configuration that promises to considerably increase the efficiency and reduce the levelised cost of electricity of CSP technologies.

The development of this new plant concept is one of the main outcomes expected from the Competitive Solar Power Towers (CAPTure) project, which has received funding from the EU’s Horizon 2020 Framework Programme. The innovative plant configuration is based on a multi-tower decoupled advanced solar combined cycle (DSCC) approach that not only increases cycle efficiencies but also avoids frequent transients and inefficient partial loads, thus maximising overall efficiency, reliability as well as dispatchability.

“We are glad that the European Commission is making it possible to demonstrate this new CSP plant configuration”, says Dr. Fritz Zaversky (CENER), coordinator of the project. “We hope that our results will increase the overall efficiency of a CSP plant and, at the same time, the competitiveness of this technology in the power market.”

CAPTure is developing all key components for the proposed plant configuration, including an unpressurized air solar receiver unit, a network of highly efficient fixed-bed regenerative heat exchangers, a two-stage, intercooled Brayton gas turbine cycle, validation-scale prototypes, small-area downsized heliostats as well as the complete theoretical assessment and optimisation of the modular multi-tower DSCC.

The project started in May 2015 and will last 4 years until April 2019. The solar receiver prototypes tests started in November 2016. The chosen test facility is the ‘’Plataforma Solar de Almería’’, a well-known solar test area in southern Spain, where all required infrastructure for the validation of the concept, such as an experimental tower and heliostat field are already available.

CAPTure at the H2020 Coordinators’ Workshop on Concentrated Solar Power

The European Commission brought together the consortia of H2020 projects dealing with concentrated solar power in a workshop held on the 24th November at the INEA premises in Brussels.

The event gathered 10 H2020 CSP consortia with the goal of exchanging experiences and information, presenting their project to relevant Commission staff and exploring the possibility of collaborating and exploiting synergies between the projects.

Fritz Zaversky (CENER) presented the project’s overall scope and main aspects while Vinicius Valente (EUREC) specifically the dissemination activities.

CAPTure partner Fraunhofer IKTS delivered a presentation at the 4th Cellular Materials (CellMAT) Conference, held on 7-9 December 2016 in Dresden, Germany.

The presentation  covered the “Property adjustment of open-celled ceramic foams for high temperature applications assisted by numerical modelling”.

CAPTure presents at SolarPaces 2016

The CAPTure consortium attended the 2016 edition of the SolarPaces Conference on 11-14 October in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The event had over 470 participants from 37 countries around the globe.

CAPTure partner EDF delivered an oral presentation covering the  “Evolution of Solar Plants Valorization in Energy-only Electricity Markets with High Renewable Share”, in which case studies in Spain were presented.

Furthermore, IK4 Tekniker presented a poster on “Modeling and simulation of fixed bed regenerators”.

The 4th Cellular Materials (CellMAT) Conference will be held on 7-9 December 2016 in Dresden, Germany.

The event will cover all aspects of manufacturing, modification, joining, property analysis and modelling of cellular materials. In addition to this, featured side events will focus on specific topics.

The European Energy Research Alliance (EERA) Annual Conference 2016 will take place on 24-25 November in Birmingham, UK.

For the first time since its establishment, EERA is organising a scientific conference. This conference is the occasion for energy researchers active in EERA, that represent more than 175 research organisations active in all fields of research on low-carbon energy, to meet and discover about each others’ challenges. The goal is to provide the opportunity for JPs cross-fertilisation, to discuss topics of common interest and input to contributing to the objectives of the SET-Plan and to the EU policy priorities in energy research. The event will also involve industrial stakeholders and policy makers in order to strengthen their collaboration with the research world.

CAPTure at the Intersolar Europe 2016 exhibition

Packed halls and high spirits among exhibitors and visitors: Intersolar and ees Europe draw to on 24th June 2016 after great success. CAPTure partner EUREC was among the 1.077 exhibitors and gladly presented the project to passing visitors.

At the end of the event, which took place in Munich, Germany on 20-24 June, around 43.000 visitors from 160 countries were present.

Sensibly integrating clean energy into the grids and shaping the transition to the new energy world is essential for the future, which is why smart renewable energy was the key topic at this year’s Intersolar Europe. The exhibitions linked the topics of energy generation, storage, grid integration and energy management. Equally important at the exhibition: Smart technologies that analyze and optimize power generation and consumption as well as interconnect various pieces of technical equipment to help create smart concepts for utilizing, managing and storing renewable energy.

The new focus on smart renewable energy and the accompanying forum proved particularly popular with visitors. At the forum, exhibitors and experts showcased potential solutions for combining renewable energies and storage in a smart power grid.

The CAPTure partner IK4-TEKNIKER technology centre organised at its facilities on February 11 , within the framework of the European NESCO project.

The aim of the NECSO project is to use nanotechnology to design coatings for pipes used by solar plant manufacturers to guarantee lifecycles ranging from 20 to 25 years and achieve higher levels of efficiency in the field of solar power generation.

The 22nd SolarPACES Conference will take place on  11 – 14 October 2016 in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

SolarPACES is the foremost symposium for the who’s who in concentrating solar power and chemical energy systems, where every year more than 500 stakeholders in the field join for information exchange and networking. The conference program usually contains about 300 technical contributions (oral and poster) and 30 plenary talks of leading experts in the field.

Intersolar Europe 2016

The EU PVSEC, the world’s largest international photovoltaics conference, will be held at the same time and in the same location as the world’s leading exhibition for the solar industry, Intersolar Europe, in Munich. Both events remain independent. By forming a collocation agreement, they are creating the international solar energy sector’s top event.

EU PVSEC – at different venues in Europe since 1977. As the world’s leading R&D conference, it serves as the international meeting point for PV experts from research, development and from industry. At this year’s upcoming EU PVSEC in Hamburg, 1,370 presentations will be dedicated to photovoltaics of the future, addressing the latest technologies, systems and most innovative materials, the policy framework, and the medium and long-term strategies and potentials. EU PVSEC is the interface between science, industry and policy makers.

Intersolar Europe is the world’s leading exhibition of the solar industry. In collaboration with ees Europe, Europe‘s largest exhibition for batteries and energy storage systems, it serves as the industry’s international meeting place for manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, project developers, investors, and installers.

In 2016, both events of the solar energy sector will open their doors to an international audience at the same time and in the same location. During June 21-24, 2016, visitors and participants will encounter the entire spectrum of solar energy concentrated at the Munich location: from science all the way to the final product.

With their decision to go for a joint location, EU PVSEC and Intersolar Europe will be strengthening Europe’s position with a strategy & information platform and by providing a showcase for state-of-the-art technologies, products and the latest market developments of the photovoltaics and energy storage industry.

Holding EU PVSEC and Intersolar Europe at the same time and in the same location will provide exhibitors, conference participants and visitors with an outstandingly wide range of products and information, while turning their stay in Munich into the most efficient and valuable appointment in the global solar power sector’s annual calendar.

Some 4,000 participants and speakers from all over the world are expected to attend the 2016 event, as well as about 40,000 trade visitors.
